The Buzz on Google Buzz

It’s hip, it’s now, wow…and how?

Google, yesterday, rolled it’s new little app, integrated into Gmail: Buzz.

What is Buzz? It’s Google’s latest social media venture, incorporating what they kind of established with Latitude. What Buzz allows you to do is share: what you’re doing, your location, rate places (restaurants, businesses, etc.), and photos (from Flickr and Picasa). You’re also able to sync your Twitter and Facebook accounts to Buzz. Which begs the question: why should I use Buzz?

Well, Buzz is a part of your Gmail, where you already check your email, and chat with friends and family through google talk. So, it basically simplifies your browsing experience a little bit more. Also, you probably should check it out, cause, well, it’s Google, and right now the only fluke they’ve got is Wave (which I’m still sketchy on).

Right now, the talk of Buzz is mainly of the idea that it’s the next Twitter or Facebook. To answer this: no. If what I’ve seen so far is ANY indication on what Google Buzz is going to be for at least the next year or two, there is little to no chance that it’ll take over the Social Media market. Yes, it might become a prominent player, strictly because (again) it’s Google, and, well, the ball is in their court on so many other things. What I’m waiting to see is whether or not they will have an API and an actual app for it, even though, right now, it’s only a web app, so an API shouldn’t be needed. Twitter and Facebook really have it right now because of their APIs and the fact that there are so many different apps available for them and different ways to connect them.

Google has definitely fallen short in two areas. First off, their mobile app leaves a lot to be desired. Even while writing this post up, I wanted to get a couple screen shots, and everything seemed to start to mess up, wouldn’t post or just wouldn’t load. However, it’s still new, so I can understand, no site is perfect when they first release. Secondly, Google didn’t do a full roll-out for all of it’s gmail users. If you were lucky, you’re able to access Buzz from your computer, if not, Google only suggest that you be patient. Google would be able to collect so much more feedback (and probably crash their buzz server) if they gave it to everyone at the same time.

All in all, on paper, I really like Google Buzz, the implementation is just kinda wrong, to me.

For your enjoyment, Google’s made a goofy-cartoony video to explain Google Buzz:

NOTE: I do not believe that you’ll be able to use Google Buzz if you are using Google Domain Apps. You MUST have a Google/Gmail Account.

Just a Few Words

Hi there, folks. I know, I don’t post as often as I’d like, or as often as you’d like, but I’d just like to say that I’m still alive, and I’m doing much better.

If you’ve been following all my twitter posts, you would notice that lately my tweets have been more upbeat than usual. No, I’m not getting involved with a girl, I’m not on drugs, I don’t absolutely love my job, and I’m probably not completely crazy. However I did have some time to myself, no tweets or any kinds of updates, in which time I was able to confront (partially) this intense guilt complex of mine.

When coming out and apologizing for something that you’ve done, it takes a lot out of you. It’s scary, and can torment you for days afterward. But I felt that it needed to be done, and because I’ve gone ahead and done it, I feel better about it. No, I don’t feel 100% guilt free, but I haven’t been overwhelmed by my guilt since.

Now, I don’t want to make this post about my neuroses or making myself sound good (although, I’m sure it’s not). I just would like to say that I’ve been pretty worked out lately, and my time off hasn’t been spent appropriately, and I’d like to apologize to those I’ve been ignoring… or if it’s seemed like I have been.

Anyhow… in other news, I’m getting my grimey little fingers on an iPhone 3Gs soon (hopefully Friday or Saturday) and I’ve got a new job. I’m more happy than usual, and I’m still in a rather large amount of leg pain.

All in all, I’m going to end the night with the Top Flickr Photo of the day. I hope you all enjoy when I post them. I just like to show off the photos of mine that have gotten the highest number of views for the day.

Goodnight to you all… have a pleasant tomorrow, and, as always, have fun with your bodies.

New Flickr Photo Set: August 14

View Through the Trees

This morning, I uploaded 50 new photos to Flickr from August 14th, 2009.

All shot with my new Canon 50D. Tell me what you think!

July 30, 2009

Howdy y’all!

No, I’m not a redneck now…although being up in the bible belt for so long might make you one. I’m starting to feel like Stephi every so often, my southern accent slips at times when I’m around locals :P

Anyhow, mom and I have been spastically moving my Aunt Babs out of her apartment. Today we basically finished. Tomorrow is the furniture move, since we’re donating all of it, I do believe. I’ve gotta get up at 8am as usual to leave at 9:30am, and be at the apartment by 12. I’ll be moving furniture all day, then my Uncle and his family will be here, I can only hope I have the energy to stay somewhat awake.

I’ve added one thing to the site called “Life Stream.” It aggregates my posts around the internet (not my tweets, cause they get auto posted here anyway) so go have fun with it, if you’d like.

I’ve taken some time to do a couple drawings lately, something I haven’t done in a VERY long time. Feel free to check them out…I don’t know if they’re any good.

The Moon Keytar

Alsooooo, I’ve signed up for a RedBubble account, which I’m still setting up. Head on over to my account (found here) and you can check out a couple photos that I have up, and from there you can actually order prints and such. Now, here’s the awesome part: by buying a print, you’re actually helping me out! Cool huh? Now, if you’re on my Flickr, and see a photo you’d like the print of, e-mail a link to the photo to Kolin@SpecialKolin.com and I’ll get it put up as soon as possible. On top of that, I’ll lower the price as much as I can, just for you!

Awesome news! My site (the one you’re on, smarty) is officially 1 year old! I’m so proud of my baby. Keeping a server isn’t cheap, but it would definitely help if you sent in a donation…not to sound like I’m begging or whatever, but times is hard, you know, times is hard.

New Flickr Home

Flickr has improved it’s user homepage, as many sites are doing these days. As to whether or not everyone will agree that it is an improvement is the question Facebook is still struggling with, but as per Flickr, I think it is. Your recent activity show up right away instead of having to click to get there, and the Recent Uploads is more of a tab, to switch back and forth from between it and the Recent Activity. Flickr users, if you haven’t checked it out yet, do so promptly!

Something I just noticed: New MacBooks

Adam Jackson (seen in the picture) was at the San Francisco Apple store. While there, he tested out the new MacBook and MacBook Pro and took a picture of himself in photobooth. Over in the corner…it says “Taken with an Apple iPhone”

After talking to Adam, we both agree that he was definitely qiking as the picture was posted onto Flickr. So the question is: what kind of camera is in the iSight? Are the iPhone and iSight one and the same? What do you think? Leave your comments below please =D

Flickr Pro!

I’m now a Flickr Pro! Yep, it would appear that I’ve overused my free Flickr account, and the word “unlimited” twisted my arm into buying one. I’m glad I did though, it’ll give me the motivation to get out and take even MORE pictures than usual.

Florida National Cemetery

High Flag, originally uploaded by SpecialKolin.

The photoshoot at the Florida National Cemetery went well, I think. I’m still kinda editing the pictures out and such at the moment since I shot them all in the RAW format.
I’ve uploaded some of the photos onto Flickr, click here to go check out the rest of the photos!

ps: this is pretty much a test of Flickr’s “Blog This” feature…I’ve never used it before.
